Landscape photography isn't just about the final image, oh no, there's usually a whole lot more lurking beneath the surface. The narrative, those intricate details, or the tale of how that shot came to be – whatever it is, my photographs never stop at the surface; the juiciest stories always reside Behind The Image. Some photographers in this field tend to sugarcoat things. But me? That’s not my style. I’m not afraid to share my unfiltered take and give it to you straight. Join me while I dive into all things landscape photography.

Shooting sunrise in the heart of summer is brutal, let me tell you. I've gotten myself out of bed as early as 2 in the morning to capture various locations. Don't get me wrong, I'm a morning person and relish the idea of being up while others waste their day sleeping till noon.
Did I Make a HUGE Mistake?? Shooting The Oregon Columbia Gorge | #13
Still, I soldiered on, testing the compositions I had in mind from my trial run the evening before. Low angle, high angle, portrait, landscape – you name it, I tried it. But NOTHING. Something felt off, and my inability to find that killer angle this morning was nothing short of a disaster.

Behind The Image Blog #06- Landscape photography | Cascadia state park, OR.
This week's blog features a little waterfall here in Oregon just off of Highway 20, located in the trails of Cascadia State Park. This place is epic, and I can’t believe I got to shoot this beautiful scene with nobody else around. A short and painless hike takes you to the base of the falls, full of lush colors, and rugged rockscapes.
Behind The Image- Blog #04- Tumalo Falls, OR.
Viewing this waterfall in the winter is an entirely different experience. Usually, in the warmer months, you park and are only steps away from the viewpoint, with other trails to hike around surrounding areas. As I’m sure you can guess, the snow in Central Oregon inhibits the ability to maintain the road to the parking lot; so they close the gates at the bottom of the road.
Behind The Image- Blog #03- Kentucky Falls, Or.
Deep, deep, DEEP in the woods of the PNW a waterfall known as Kentucky Falls sits; fully submerged in the boondocks and far out from any civilization. A 3.7-mile hike near Mapleton OR, about an hour and 45 minutes from Eugene; though that might be a tad bit of a stretch because it’s one hell of an adventure to get to this spot.
Behind The Image - Blog #02 - Scott lake, OR.
This week's blog kicks off in a gorgeous region of Oregon, known as Central Oregon. A little place called Scott Lake. A location I stumbled upon not too many years ago, endlessly searching the internet; location scouting. Boy is this place something else. Just off of McKenzie highway 242, an epic view of the three sisters' volcanic peaks awaits.
Behind The Image- Blog #01 - Sweet Creek Falls, OR.
Sweet Creek falls, such a beautiful location. Rigid rocks, stunning fall foliage, and waterscapes like no other. The trail is a 1.8-mile hike located near Mapleton Oregon, about 58 miles outside of Eugene off of highway 126.
